country chickadee

i thought relocating constituted a new blog title.
chicken little was taken so country chickadee will have to do. we did move to the country afterall.
the change from cookie-cutter city living to country life is quite stark.

saying goodbye to city life - and the purchase that made us homeowners

a sincere thank you to everyone who is now injured from lifting boxes!
however, despite loosing coffee shops and grocery stores,
we gained land to hunt, four-wheel, and walk,
a woodstove,
space for a huge garden,
brighter stars,
fruit trees,
chickens...

yep, 11 hens and a rooster i named richard.  r.d. for short.
r.d. likes kyle.  he follows him out to burn trash or chop wood
then keeps an eye on him while pecking at the grass and eating bugs.
i'm no expert in rooster crows - but i'd have to say his "cock-a-doodle-do" sounds pretty pathetic.
i admit owning chickens wasn't my idea but am coming around a little
and actually kinda like hearing richard's sad crow. don't tell kyle. ;)

richard practicing his flamingo.

we also added a new member to the family.

we got him from a shelter. his momma is a boxer who was being courted by a german shepherd. althought we can't be completely sure the shepherd is the papa we think our pup resembles one.

all the cool kids wear hawaiian bling---at least until they get collars that fit!
he is as ornery as he is sweet - but boy can he be sweet.
i named him atlas - for kyle and his love of maps.

napping while kyle reads

collecting firewood

love him!

Fun! We have a chicken coop in our backyard (despite living in the city) but I wouldn't even know where to start with chickens! I like the idea of them though. :)

Alyssa, Kyle would say you need chickens! Give us a call and he will talk you into it. :)
