raspberries

a couple summers ago we pulled out some stubborn trumpet vine and
built up the bed to make room for raspberries. it didn't leave easily.
we literally had to pry it from the support beams of the deck, and as you can see, it left it's mark-
at least until we restained the deck.

in it's place we planted raspberries and blueberries.

last year was a growing year and this is the first year we've gotten berries.

at first only a handful of raspberries ripened each day
so kyle and i got into a habit of laying them all out for a draft after collecting them.

it was his idea, of course.
here he is threatening to eat one early.

he usually lets me pick first and then we just take turns until a small scrawny berry remains.
i pop mine into my mouth as i choose them and kyle saves his to add to cereal
that boy loves his cereal.

this was our loot from our first picking of the season - an early variety.
we probably picked a few too early, but were so excited.

go plant some raspberries or stop by and get a starter from us.
they are incredibly expensive in the store and much more fun (and organic) if grown yourself!
